Marvel Comics (AKA: Marvel Worldwide INC.) is an American publisher of Comic books. They have made characters that we all know and love such as Wolverine, Captain America, Storm, ETC. Everyone knows they aren't who originally started Marvel, it was the one and only Stan Lee. His first character ever to have a comic book was The Human Torch! (Right) Once Stan became successful, Martin Goodman (Lower Right) founded Marvel Worldwide INC. and Stan Lee became the EIC publisher all in 1939!
In 1939, Marvel started as Timely Publications then in 1950, it became known as Atlas Comics. The "Modern Incarnation" dates were 1961 to 1991 when The Fantastic Four was created. Most of Marvel's comic characters are put in a reality known as Marvel with realistic places. Characters like the Avengers, X-Men, Dare-Devil, Dr. Strange, and the Fantastic Four are based in New York. But some of the others such as Thor, Guardians of the Galaxy, are based on different planets. Most are based on Earth 616. Moe "Martin" Goodman was a publisher of magazines and launched what became Marvel Comics in America. He was the oldest son of his 13 siblings. He was hired by a distributing corp but when it went bankrupt, he joined other investors as part owners of Mutual Magazine Distributors and became editor. Once Goodman contracted with Funnies INC. to help fund the first Marvel comic. Once the comic was published, Goodman formed Marvel Comics and the industry grew within a couple of months bringing in money for Lee and Goodman. Here is some interesting facts about Marvel. Lee put a hyphen in Spider-Man to separate his name from Superman. The Hulk was originally grey until it was changed due to poor color separations. Marvel Comics owned the rights to the word "Zombie" in 1975 to 1996. Michael Jackson considered buying Marvel Comics in the '90s to play the role of Spider-Man. Marvel used to own the rights to use "Godzilla" in their comics. Here's the strangest one of all! Dr. Strange, Captain America, Linda Rondstadt, and C-3PO were in a band together! Here are some did-you-knows about Stan Lee. Stan Lee retired from Marvel and went to work for DC Comics! (It was brief) One of the earliest jobs he ever had was writing obituaries. He is the reason drug-use can be shown in comics. All because he was asked to write to a comic about the dangers of drug-use. He is the single highest-grossing filmmaker in history due to the Avengers movies! He became a comic book as a text filler.
